A Honda Ruckus.

Does this have to do with my post from last night? If so, I apologize.

I was kicking around the idea of a Ruckus, but the responses I seemed to hear were that 30mph isn’t all that fast and might as well get something faster. So I looked at a Grom, and the responses were that I should just get a big motorcycle as it’s not fast enough.
Hence, I don’t own a motorized vehicle with two wheels.

They are very cool, but I think the grom has probably edged it out in the ‘need to have’ department.

Gah! This was my comment exactly.

but no motorcycle license, registration, insurance is needed for a ruckus!

Yes

I’m starting with a ruckus even though everyone tells me not to.

They’re different. I’ve currently got both (though the ruck was a very recent addition) and they are both fun in totally different ways.
The grom is a mini hooligan bike, when ever I ride mine I find a street rossi side of myself that I didn’t know existed, it begs to be ridden at 10/10ths whenever possible. It’s fun as hell but I wouldn’t exactly call it relaxing
The ruckus is way more laid back, I don’t feel the need to burn it down everywhere I go. I have a ton of fun just going out and cruising the city, exploring.

It all depends on your location. Do you live in a city? Buy a grom/ruckus and call it done, no need at all for anything bigger. If you live in a rural area though, you’re going to want something freeway capable.

Yes, in a city. My commutes would rarely involve a highway.

Counterpoint - ruckus owners are the scum of the two wheeled world. In my area, ruckus owners ride in shorts and flip flops with a baseball cap on and insist on picking fights with cars over the slightest perceived infraction. All of that because they own one of the least practical scooters on the road. (50cc and no locking storage? Impressive!)

I live close enough to a city that my Grom and Vespa see far more use than either of my “proper” motorcycles, I expect the ruckus will slide in there and take even more time away from them lol

I’ve got a Grom and live in the suburbs. I want a “real” bike, but my fun is thwarted by cars more often than not even on the Grom. That would only happen more with a big bike.

Would ride, would stretch;

I’m not a big bike guy, but I’ve ridden a few. Being in the suburbs and having a car, if I wanted 2 wheels I’d pick a grom over anything else made no questions asked. Most enjoyable little thing on the planet

That’s good to hear. opposite of what seemed to be the consensus here: http://oppositelock.kinja.com/talk-me-out-of-a-moto-1793213285

The whole cost issue is very real. For the money spent on a grom (3-5k) there are plenty of fantastic 250-500cc crotch rockets you can get off Craigslist in great shape. Around here at least, every single grom, regardless of age, goes for 4500. It’s uncanny. So yeah, definitely holds value well.
But man the Grom is just so fun. If you’re in a place with a lot of traffic lights, occasional traffic and plenty of neighborhood road driving, it’s hard to beat. No top end grunt, but it moves quite well from a stop and up to 30mph. It feels faster because of how nimble it is. You’ll be able to out-maneuver anything else at low speeds.
Plus, there’s great aftermarket support to take the thing in whatever direction you choose! If If wasn’t committed to building up the Miata, I’d already have one

Numerous people have said that Grom is the Miata of two wheels. (=

There is a clone called the IceBear MadDog, that looks pretty similar to the ruck and comes with a 150cc.
